1.
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of the Investor
Rode the cash strapped Entrepreneur
“Forwards ! ”, shouted the Entrepreneur!
“Let’s Pitch to the investors !”:
Into the valley of Investor
Rode the cash strapped Entrepreneur.
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of the Investor
Rode the cash strapped Entrepreneur
“Forwards ! ”, shouted the Entrepreneur!
“Let’s Pitch to the investors !”:
Into the valley of Investor
Rode the cash strapped Entrepreneur.
2.
“Forward, the Entrepreneur!”
Was there anyone dismay’d?
Not tho’ the Entrepreneurs knew
The gods had blunder’d:
Theirs not to question why,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and try:
Into the valley of the Investor
Rode the brave Entrepreneur.
3.
Failure to right of them,
Risk to left of them,
Investment in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with ‘word’ and pledges,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of the Investor,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the mighty Entrepreneur.
4.
Flash’in all their Business Plans bare,
Flash’in as they turn’d to the air,
Pitching to the investors there,
Charging like an army, while
All the world wonder’d:
Plunged forward with their pitches bare
Right thro’ the line they broke;
Be they Indian or Russian
All making the blunders same
Shatter’d and sunder’d.
Then they rode back, but not
As the cash strapped Entrepreneur.
5.
Investment to right of them,
Investment to left of them,
Failure behind them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with pledges and promises,
Still the entrepreneur hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death
Back from the mouth of Hell,
Still like a house of cards,
They continued to be blown away
What was left of the brave Entrepreneur.
6.
How can their glory fade?
O the wild charges they'll always make!
While the world will always wonder.
Honor the pitches they make,
Honor the Entrepreneur,
The Wisest of the Innovators,
And, the Noblest of the Warriors today.
— Adapted from Lord Tennyson’s Charge of the Light Brigade, 1854.
